Snakes & Ladders is a classic game from India. It is an entirely luck based game, where the players move their pawns as per the roll of a dice. The simple journey to the top is made dicey by the various snakes and ladders strewn all over the playing board.
Land on a snake's head, and down you go to its tail. Land on a ladder's bottom rung, and you go all the way to its top.
You win the game by reaching the "100" tile first.
You lose the game if your opponent gets there first.
During your turn, you only need to roll the dice. To do so, you can left-click the "Roll dice" button or left-click the dice itself.
At the start, both you and your opponent start at the "1" tile. You stay locked here, until you roll a "1" or a "6" on the dice.
For the rest of the game, your pawn moves as many tiles further as the face of the die you rolled. There is a bonus if you roll a "6", you get to roll again! If you keep rolling a "6", you keep getting to roll again.
As mentioned before, the head of the snake, and the bottom rung of a ladder are special tiles. Landing on them immediately takes you to the other end of the snake or the ladder, and your turn continues normally from there on. There's no reverse effect in case you land on the tail of a snake, or the top rung of a ladder.
The last rule to remember is that you can only enter the "100" tile by rolling the exact number to get there. For example, if you are on the tile numbered "98", then only a "1" or a "2" is a valid roll, while rolling a "3" or more just forfeits your turn, and the opponent continues normally.
Snakes & Ladders is an age old classic, and extremely popular among kids. It also goes by the name "Chutes & Ladders" in some places. Check out Wikipedia to learn more about it!
